UNIVERSITY OF MISSISSIPPI MEDICAL CENTER

The University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson is seeking
additional gastroenterology colleagues for their growing gastroenterology

already experienced in an academic medical center or would like
to explore all that an academic setting can offer you.

The Successful Candidate:
-- BC/BE in Gastroenterology

bowel disease, GI cancer, and interventional billiary, are welcome
--
Will have an interest in teaching both internal medicine residents
and gastroenterology fellows

The Practice Opportunity:
-- Join three gastroenterologists and be a part of the division's
continuing growth
-- Enjoy support from your colleagues and administration as you
develop the practice you've always wanted - you'll have the freedom
to pursue your special interests while also providing top-notch
general gastroenterology care
-- Opportunity for research exists, if desired
-- Look forward to call 1:4 with fellows taking first call
-- Benefit from sovereign immunity as a state employee with a
cap on malpractice exposure under a new tort claims act
-- Faculty appointment at the University of Mississippi School
of Medicine will be considered at the assistant, associate, and
full professor level and will be commensurate with experience
--
Joint appointment at G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center
is available

You'll be based at the University of Mississippi Medical Center
(UMC), which is the only academic medical center in Mississippi
and the newest hospital in the state. Therefore, it is well funded,
well supported, and highly respected in the region as the preferred
resource for tertiary care, including that offered at its Level
I trauma center. UMC is a 700+ bed, academic medical center, located
on a seven hospital campus, with a history of excellence in teaching,
research, and patient care.

You'll enjoy a stimulating professional environment with well
educated colleagues who are leaders in their field. Dr. Tom Abell,
Division Director for Gastroenterology, is a nationally known
expert, with NIH grant support, in motility disorders. In fact,
he is one of only a handful of physicians in the United States
who insert gastric electro stimulation devices. In addition, Chairman
of Medicine, Dr. Richard deShazo is widely known and respected
and has served as chairman at UMC for ten years. He has also served
as president of the Association of Professors of Medicine and
on the boards of the American Board of Internal Medicine and the
American Board of Medical Specialists. The current President of
the American Heart Association, Daniel W. Jones, M.D., is the
Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs and Dean of the School of Medicine
at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.

In fact, Dr. Guyton, author of Textbook of Medical Physiology,
taught at the University of Mississippi for many years and has
personally educated many of the UMC physicians.

There's no better way to enjoy Southern living and hospitality
than making your home in Jackson, Mississippi. You'll enjoy a
more reasonable cost of living than in many areas of the country.
Your family will benefit from outstanding educational options
in safe communities. You'll see the real heart of the community
in its charitable giving, which is very important in Jackson and
very well supported by residents.

In your time off, enjoy a twelve month outdoor lifestyle in a
city located on a 44 square mile tropical lake, which hosts the
national Bass Masters Tournament. Hunting, camping, rodeo, and
the International Ballet Festival are among other features of
the community. Jackson is within 3 hours by automobile form the
gulf beaches, New Orleans, Birmingham, Memphis, and Mobile. In
addition, Jackson has its own airport with easy connections to
the rest of the United States and the world for a weekend getaway,
visiting family and friends, or taking a well deserved vacation.

It is no wonder Jackson has been voted one of "America's Most
Livable Cities!"

The University of Mississippi Medical Center adheres to the principle
of equal educational and employment opportunity without regard
to race, creed, sex, color, religion, marital status, sexual orientation,
age, national origin, disability or veteran status.
