Oak Hill Hospital (OHH) opened in 1984. It is Hernando and Citrus County’s largest and most advanced hospital with 204 beds. It has experienced tremendous growth since our opening nearly 22 years ago and we continue to expand to meet the needs of our community. In 2002, The Cancer Institute at Oak Hill Hospital, which is the only accredited cancer program in Citrus and Hernando counties, signed an affiliation agreement with Shands HealthCare and the University of Florida Shands Cancer Center. This collaboration provides cooperative diagnostic treatment protocols and continuing medical education opportunities for specialized healthcare of complex medical conditions. We are pleased to bring the benefits to our community of a partnership with such a prestigious cancer program.
In the fall of 2003, OHH completed a $10 million expansion of the Emergency Department which included an addition of 12 treatment rooms, bringing the total to 29 and it added a new X-ray facility and separate entrances for ambulances and the public. Additionally, the Quick Care Unit, handles less severe emergencies, was expanded. Oak Hill Hospital’s Emergency Department is proud to have been ranked in the top 10 hospitals within the 200 HCA hospital network for patient satisfaction.
In 2005, OHH achieved recognition by the American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association for our Stroke Center complying with the Get with the Guidelines program. And, in 2006, the Heart Institute began providing open heart surgery, cardiac angioplasty and stenting. Home of the Weeki Wachee Mermaids, and close to many other attractions, such as Disney World, Busch Gardens, Daytona Speedway, Cypress Gardens, and miles of beautiful beaches with tropical breezes.
